The 80/20 Rule

Ok, so I probably shoudln't be posting today, since I have a mound of work on my desk (see below), but I needed to get some things out of my thoughts....

I finally sat down and watched the movie "Why Did I Get Married" this past weekend. Great movie, if you can really relate to the characters and the culture. Well during the movie, as the men were discussing what is become known and "man law", one of the characters broke down the 80/20 rule. For those of you that aren't aware, here goes:

Often times in relationships men and/or women find themselves in a situation where the person that they are with has 80% of the attributes that they feel they desire in a mate. However, as time progresses....

(note the 3 day lag time in finishing this post, lol)....so much can happen in 3 days.

(However as time progresses...) people begin to realize that they are missing out on 20% of the wholeness that they desire. This can cause people to step outside of their relationship in order to seek the 20%. What is often times missed is the fact that they are totally oblivious to the goodness they have at home (80%)....

I wonder if its possible to have 90 or 95%....that sure would decrease the odds of stepping outside....hmmm

Little Known Facts

Ok, so I've decided to take a break from the Rat Race today, and let you guys in on a few secrets about me that may otherwise go unknown.

Do you ever have those random things that you do, say, or otherwise think, that perhaps you wonder if other people do the same thing? Well, if not...here goes mine:

1. I like NPR. If you don't know what that stands for, please, please pick up a newspaper or use the internet a little more. NPR = National Public Radio. Now I can't really say why I like it, but for some odd reason, the dryness and monotone of all of the hosts on the show, does something to me, lol. Maybe it's the recently influx of political jargon that goes on, on NPR. Needless to say I can listen to that station all day and not get bored.......or maybe I'm the dunce, lol.

2. Speaking of radio. I'm beginning to like "Pop" music. Now this one I know where it comes from. I think I'm just fed up with hearing nothing but trash on the Hip-Hop radio stations. It's like they play nothing but trash, then sprinkle in Beyonce or Chris Brown, and try to call it "The Best Radio Station in America." That's a total turn off. But for some odd reason, I've found myself listening to groups like "3 doors down" lately.....oddly enough, I rather listen to them versus Young (insert the next up and coming name....Jock, Dro, Jeezy, etc...) Why does every black rapper have to be named Young Something, lol.

3. I have secrectly become obsessed with LinkedIn.com. It's so refreshing to have conversations with "educated people", both black and white, and all in between.

4. I'm finally figured out how to cook a few dishes:
a. Salmon Alfreddo (Pasta)
b. Hotwings!!!
c. Collard Greens
d. None Dry Baked Chicken
e. Cabbages
f. Working on a new stir fry dish.....

[gotta finish some work....be back soon]

Rat Race Part III - Stop Digging

[breaking back into my virtual world]

So I heard a quote about a week or so ago, that has resurfaced into my own life….

It went something to the effect of “the first decision to make, to get you out of a hole, is to ‘stop digging’.”

When I first read it, it sounded kind of catchy. However, I would have never thought that reality would have set in only a dozen day later…..

Side note: Please excuse the randomness today, but I’ve gotta get it together…

Have I wronged someone? Have I burned bridges that I’m not aware of? Have I been mean or unjustly? Have a created an environment around myself where people are drawn away from me? Am I the negative magnet to this positive world?

My phone doesn’t ring much anymore, nor does my inbox fill up with anything more than spam. Literally, I can count the number of people who call to check up on me using one hand. That’s sad, quite sad….let’s see…there’s DD, CC, Mom’s, KM, and DW. I guess what bothers me is that what I (until recently) considered my close knit family and friends aren’t as knit as I would have thought….

Lately I’ve been feeling the blunted force of self disappointment. I’ve made some bad decisions. Nothing that affects anyone else, except me. This is quite relative to my last post on 1/21, which outlined the fact that I don’t feel as though I have anyone to discuss my issues with.

So here I sit…I never thought my journey would have led me down this road of life. I’m sure that God has a message somewhere is this part of the Word of my Life, but I am clearly blinded. Blinded by the loneness and emptiness. (Note that I didn’t say Aloneness, because there are people who come and go, but I’m beginning to realize that they didn’t give a damn about me to begin with).

I just feel like I’m missing something. Like putting together a puzzle. All of the pieces are right there in from on you, yet you can’t make out what the heck the picture is….that’s how I feel……

I left my life in Georgia coming up on a year now. In doing so I sometimes wonder if it was the best decision.

Have I misplaced my life???

(Trying to stop digging)…..
